The Best of the Yukon!

Spend the weekend in historic Dawson City enjoying the annual Dawson Music Festival (in Canada). Every year the best names in Canadian music perform for an appreciative and spirited audience. Daytime events include concerts and workshops at intimate venues throughout the community, as well as a full slate of children's and family entertainment, games, and crafts. When night comes, the tent becomes the biggest dance party north of 60, while the historic Palace Grand Theatre plays host to beautiful sit-down concerts.

The day after the festival you put in on the Yukon River and float with the current for three days to Eagle, Alaska. Nights will be spent camping on naturally formed islands which dot the river. Our van and trailer meet us with mountain bikes and supplies for the ride of a lifetime back to Dawson City on the Taylor Highway and Top of the World Highway.

This tour combines a leisurely float trip, rich in gold rush history, with spectacular biking on the Yukon Plateau. The Yukon Territory is the size of California with a total population of only 30,000 people. Come and experience this incredible country with experienced local guides who are passionate about the land and their awesome outdoor sporting activities!

IItinerary

Day one – three (start option 1): This fun dual sport adventure begins with the optional three-day Dawson City Music Festival. Festival-goers will meet early on Day 1 in Skagway, Alaska. That night we will check into our hotel in Dawson for the weekend after an all-day drive across the expansive Yukon, be sure to have your camera ready! The festival features excellent Canadian musicians, a relaxed atmosphere and a chance to enjoy historic Dawson. Everyone is on their own schedule for food and fun during the festival.

Day four – six (start option 2): (B,L,D) On Monday (Day 4), the full group meets up and we put in on the Yukon River to begin our 100-mile float to Eagle, Alaska. Folks joining up for the shorter 8-day trip will fly from Whitehorse to Dawson on Monday morning. The Yukon River moves along at a good pace with the option to either paddle or drift with the current. We spend the next 3 days camping on islands and visiting historic sites along the way.

Day seven: (B,L,D) We arrive in Eagle, Alaska and meet our tour van. Bikes are prepped and we begin our ride back to Dawson on the Taylor Highway. Keep an eye out for the large Fortymile caribou herd that roams near the highway. The hard pack bituminous dirt road ascends to American Pass where we camp for the night.

Day eight – ten: (B,L,D) We continue south on the Taylor Highway and camp near the junction of the Top of the World Highway. The highway is so named because, along much of its length, it skirts the crest of the hills, giving looks down on the valleys. The next day we turn onto the Top of the World Highway and cross the US-Canadian border back into the Yukon Territory. This section provides stunning views across the Yukon Plateau. We ride the ridge east, savoring views of the Tombstone Mountains and the river valley. We camp the night in the alpine tundra. Our last day of riding ends with an exhilarating 9-mile coast down to the river and a short ferry ride across to Dawson. We spend the last night in out hotel in Dawson.

Day eleven: (B) We return by van to Whitehorse to meet departing flights in the afternoon. Participants have the option of continuing with us in the van to Skagway, Alaska. From Skagway you may travel on your own by either small plane or on the State of Alaska Marine Highway Ferry to Juneau to meet departing flights.
