Explore the Adirondacks in the winter with Eastern Mountain Sports.
Don’t let the winter blues get you down. Shake things up and join our Eastern Mountain Sports professional guides for a beginner ice climbing & snowshoeing adventure in Lake Placid, New York.
This adventure offers one day of fully instructed ice climbing (including all gear) and one day of guided snowshoeing or hiking with a knowledgeable EMS Adventure Guide. You don’t need any prior experience to enjoy this adventure, just a good attitude and a basic level of fitness.
Our host for this adventure is the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, located directly on the shores of Mirror Lake and in the heart of the Olympic Village. This location is within walking distance from shopping and restaurants. The resort also has a heated pool and hot tub, great for relaxing after a day of outdoor adventures. Along with being conveniently located, the Golden Arrow has gone totally “green” by remodeling their resort so that your stay will be carbon neutral.
Each trip will provide both a physical challenge and a peaceful way to experience the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains in winter.

ITINERARY
DAY 1) Arrive at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort at 4pm on the first day. After you’ve checked-in, your guide will meet the group in the lobby at 5pm to discuss which trails and climbs are planned for the next couple of days. We’ll also go over your gear to make sure you have everything needed to stay dry and warm. If you’re missing anything, we’ll give you an EMS discount coupon so you can walk over to our Lake Placid store for last minute shopping. Dinner is on your own tonight.
Day 2) After breakfast, meet at 9am in the hotel lobby with all of your gear for the day. If needed, this morning we’ll head over to the EMS Lake Placid store for gear fitting then head out with a delicious packed trail lunch to keep you energized. Today's snow shoe hike will be decided by the weather and our group members’ abilities. All of our trips take into account differences in fitness, and everyone should come expecting to hike for at least 5 hours. If the group is up for pushing the limits, we can try a more challenging route or peak.. You should be back at the resort by 4pm. The rest of the evening is on your own to enjoy.
Breakfast & Dinner are not included, but a hearty pack lunch will be provided.
Day 3) After breakfast, you’ll need to check out of the resort before our meeting at 9am, when your ice climbing guide will meet you in the lobby to go over today's climb. You should have all of your gear ready so we can leave directly after your orientation. Today’s Intro to Ice climbing should be finished around 3pm and everyone will be free to drive directly home.
Breakfast in not included, but a hearty pack lunch will be provided.
