Casual Sea Kayaking Trip to Beaufort, Known as “Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands”

As the darker nights set in up North and the early morning frost needs to be scraped from your car window why not take a late season Kayak gateway to warmer temperatures and warmer water in “Beautiful” Beaufort South Carolina.

Known for its Southern hospitality and casual seaside charm, Beaufort reigns as the "Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands." With its scenic waterfront charm, quaint shops and historic homes, Beaufort beckons, encouraging visitors to experience Southern hospitality at its best. Take the time to explore the rich history and culture of this stunning seaside town, which has long been a favorite for visitors from across the United States.

This trip is designed for new paddlers who are looking for a gentle long weekend gateway paddling the marshes and inlets enjoying the local marine environment you will be taken guided by a local guide and one of our own instructors during this trip.

ITINERARY

Thursday 6th November
Arrival in Beaufort at the Best Western Inn, there will be a reception at 8pm to meet and greet your fellow paddlers over a glass of wine and some local cheeses in the main reception area. (Cheese and wine reception)

Friday 7th November
Time to stretch the body and take in some of the sights of Beaufort as we paddle this Historic down town area, arriving back with plenty of time to have a walk into town. (B,L,D)

Saturday 8th November
We will travel further a field and head out to Cat Island to enjoy lunch at Port Royal and returning back to Beaufort. (B,L,D)

Sunday 9th November
Our last day we will venture out from Beaufort and take in more of the local area arriving back by 2pm allowing time to depart for home. (B,L)

ARRIVAL GUIDELINES:
Everyone will need to make their own way to the Beaufort, Best Western Inn on November 6th. The group will meet in the lobby at 8pm for a reception. Everyone should plan on arriving no later than 7pm.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT LIST

The following lists represent the basic type and amount of items you need to bring. Depending on the area and time of year, additional items may be required as a general guideline; your clothing should be made of synthetic materials or wool to retain their warmth when wet. Most synthetics like polartec fleece and polypropylene also have the advantage of quick drying. Avoid cotton items as they lack warmth and take a long time to dry.

Eastern Mountain Sports will provide a wet suit, paddle, jacket and PFD.

2 pair quick dry shorts (nylon)

• 1 bathing suit

• 2 polypro shirts - not cotton

• 1 pair of long fleece or synthetic pants – not cotton

• 1 fleece jacket or wool sweater (this will keep you warm even when wet)

• 1 wide brimmed sun/rain hat

• 1 warm fleece or wool hat

• Sunglasses with band

• Spare set of eyeglasses (even if you wear contact lenses) and contact lens solution

• Sunscreen (spf 15–30, waterproof for kayak)

• 100% Aloe Vera

• Insect repellent

• 1 liter water bottle

• Wetsuit booties (may be supplied by operator)

• Camera

• Neoprene paddling gloves

• Binoculars

• 10 liter dry bag

Other personal clothing: We’ll be heading out for dinner, and leisurely shopping. You won’t need anything fancy, this is a beach town and everything is “low key.”

Kayakers of all abilities will enjoy this sea side adventure. You’re welcome even if you’ve never kayaked before. Our Kayak School Director, Peter Casson will be there to help each person further their skill level.
